You’ve probably seen the video making the rounds on #NigerianTwitter.
@QueenKoroye @EatDrinkLagos @YouTube is it me or is this very offensive, derogatory and even racist?

A group of American comedians try African food and react rather interestingly. The team at YNaija watched their videos and well…reacted.
Enitan (Personal Assistant to the Managing Partner, RED) – ignorant americans
Faisal (Project Associate, RED) – it’s offensive, true but is it shocking? Not really
Ada (Assistant Editor, YNaija.com) – Is it insulting? a little bit.
Faisal – Relative, tbh
Biodun (Executive Office Lead, RED) – I’m with you on relativity.
Kemi (Staff Writer, YNaija.com) – OMG those guys were hi-la-roius! The video had me laughing out loud, it reminded of the first time I tasted a non-African food, sesame chicken Chinese food at a recent event in Lagos. I almost threw up. I reacted almost the same way so I see nothing wrong in the video.
Ada – It isn’t fun listening to my local food being called ‘clay’ but it is understandable as i find most foreign foods, weird anyway.
Janet (Staff Writer, YNaija) – Hmm! Their reaction to it is quite commendable. I mean I will also react to weird to some of their delicacies if I try them.
Ada – I remember when i ate something from Kenya- puked for days. However, side remarks such as ”50 cents feeding an African child comfortably”, i find insulting
Biodun – Thing is, I like the post. Briefly forgetting the offensive content.
Janet – Not cool with comparing the delicacies with nasty things like garbage, toilet and all.
Ada – “Bottom of a garbage disposal”? i will never see Egusi the same again. Thanks guys.
Biodun – Imagine if it was my mum that made that. Yeah that’s one way to look at it
Enitan – I don’t blame them. How can they say the names of the dishes were like gay black men?
Ada – Gay black names? Bad breath? I’m crying.
Janet – But it’s so hilarious saying the food sounds like a gay’s name.
Biodun – No proper meal should be referenced as such though
Kemi – They didn’t just mock our food (fufu), they hilariously dissed Kim Kardashian’s ass, Rick Ross (who once said Africa is a country instead of continent), KFC and more. So no hard feelings, I totally love their sense of humour!
Ada – I prefer the white guys’ clip better than the black dudes. They were more original and willing to try it out- even embracing the culture and wondering why their Nigerian roommate hides in the toilet to eat it.
Janet – The black reaction to the African food is a disgrace. They could sit like that and condemn their ancestral food like that sounds like denying your origin. Like really, Africa is a continent? That is so dumb, like, who doesn’t know that?
Biodun – The writer did give us two different perspectives, so it’s not even a race thing
Ada – I prefer the white guys’ clip better than the black dudes. They were more original and willing to try it out- even embracing the culture and wondering why their Nigerian roommate hides in the toilet to eat it.
Janet – The West African should really be ashamed of himself.
Ada – The black guy, however, “Africa is a continent” really? Thats lame. And pronouncing the food like they aren’t from these world? The guy who said he’s from west Africa should be ashamed of himself.
Janet – Like seriously, Egusi looks like someone’s toilet, that’s harsh. People eat that stuff and enjoy!
Ada – Thankfully they all tried it together [fufu and Egusi] and all is well with the world again. I share the same sentiment with the Ogbono, so pass.
Nosa (Online Content Lead, RED) – Fair enough.
